Powering through winter: how to prepare for winter power cuts
Date: 13/11/24
The winter season is upon us, and businesses across the UK are facing an increased risk of power outages.
This is due to unpredictable, severe weather conditions, such as heavy rainfall, snow, and high winds, along with seasonal pressure on the National Grid. These conditions make in maintaining a continuous power supply incredibly challenging.
This is true for organisations of all sizes, across all sectors, and can spell disaster for those that are unprepared. After all, even brief interruptions in power can bring businesses to a complete standstill, with significant financial consequences and reputational damage.
To help businesses prepare, Central Power Services (CPS) has therefore launched a new guidance paper, ‘Powering Through Winter’. The free resource provides practical advice for businesses – with or without a generator – on how to safeguard against winter power cuts and ensure power continuity through challenging seasonal weather conditions.
Areas it covers include:
- Why maintaining continuous power is becoming more challenging as winter conditions become more severe.
- The key common consequences of power cuts to businesses.
- How to prepare for winter power outages when you have a generator in place – including key insights on why cold weather can have more of an impact on a generator’s ability to operate and key steps on putting a robust testing and maintenance process in place.
- Key steps to take to develop an adequate solution if you do not currently have a generator installed in your business.
