Customer: Welsh Government.
Client: SPIE & Wales Transport Technology Consultant (WTTC).
Scheme of Works: Generator upgrade works at Penmaenbach & Headland Tunnels.
The Brief:
As an on-going scheme of upgrade works on the A55 in North Wales, the brief was to replace an old Plantroom Genset on the Penmaenbach West Approach Tunnel, and for the installation of a new Packaged Genset on the Eastbound Headland Tunnel.
The Generators are used in a Stand-by application to provide power for lighting and smoke extraction in the event of a network outage.
CPS Ltd worked closely with SPIE & WTTC in the early stages on the design in-order to give a practical solution in-line with the Welsh Governments commitments and obligations.
The scheme of works for the Westbound Approach Penmaenbach Tunnel included for full de-commission and removal from site of the existing Plantroom Genset, as well as for the supply of a 500KVA Rental Genset to cover outages until the new 600KVA Genset had been fully commissioned and handed over.
The scheme of works for the Eastbound Headland Tunnel was for the supply, installation and commission of a new 66KVA Packaged Genset, due to the location, the Genset was housed within a fully weatherproof enclosure c/w Coastal Paint Finish.
The Conclusion
In-line with the initial project objectives, CPS Ltd played a key role allowing the scheme to be successfully carried-out within the tight timeframe allowing the Welsh Government to meet its commitments and obligations.
